The Harbor Hills

If you were driving up the Pacific coast, and looked ahead and to your right, just before you left California, you'd see some high rolling hills

These are the Harbor Hills.

They rise from near sea level to over 1400 feet.

At their foot is a narrow bench, site of the famous (locally at least) Harbor lily fields, source of most of the worlds lily and hydrangea stock. Beyond is the Pacific.

To the northwest is the Chetco River and the Port of Brookings/Harbor. To the south are the Winchuck River, the Smith River, Pelican Bay and Crescent City.

We expect lots in the Harbor Hills to be available this spring. $250,000 to $450,000.

The developing a master plan for the hills that is based on the work of turn-of the century bay-area architect Bernard Maybeck, who did the original designs for Brookings. Also influencing the design are European, particularly Italian, hill towns. Participating are some of the world most able architects and urban designers, including Christopher Alexander, Douglas Duany, and Lucien Steil.

To see the developing master plan and read more about it, see HarborHills.net. The plan is for a true town with 1200 residential lots plus commercial, civic, recreational, park and cultural facilities interwoven.

The Harbor Hills site is a satellite of the Brookings. It is in a remarkable area. Due to a weather anomaly it is known as the "Banana Belt." and the "Home of Winter Flowers."

Average temperatures May to October : highs 60 to 72, lows 44-52. November to April: highs 53-61, lows 40-47. Precipitation: April to October: .5 to 5 inches per month November to March: 9 to 11 inches per month.

It is surrounded by wilderness areas and warm, clear-running rivers-- great for swimming and with some of the best fishing anywhere. There are daily commuter flights to San Francisco and Sacramento. Many residents divide their time between Brookings and the Bay Area.

The Harbor Hills will have riding, biking and walking trails; an extensive park system; recreational and arts facilities-- and extreme internet access using fiber optic to the home (ftth) technology. Initialy at gigibit speeds, with a big pipe into your house, bandwidth can increase as fast as the technology for sending data over fiber advances.
