This is a list of the links to entertainment and other items of interest that appear on the other pages, plus some more. The choices are ours. They are of things that we'd do on the coast or ones that are within range, and good enough that we'd drive to them.
Of the inland links, those in Eugene are within comfortable range from the central coast, while those near Ashland are mainly for those on the south coast.
Music & Theater
Oregon Shakespeare Festival
In Ashland.
A world-class season of plays both classic and recent (not just Shakespeare). Ashland is inland from Brookings two or three hours. Much of the drive is up the beautiful Smith river canyon (with its rocks and moss, much of it looks like a Japanese painting.) Ashland has great restaurants and plenty of hotel rooms.
The Britt Festivals
In Jacksonville, near Ashland. A beautiful, intimate outdoor amphitheater. Performances range from classical to rock and roll.
Newport Performing Arts Center
A big modern performing arts center. It is busy, with music, theater and even old movies.
Pistol River Concerts
In Pistol River, between Brookings and Gold Beach. The Pistol River Grange must be one of the funkiest performance spaces around. However it is intimate, and from the broken-down chairs and couches, you can hear great music.
Reggae On the River
Three days of serious fun at French's Camp on the Eel River, in the redwoods. About three hours south of Brookings, near Benbow. Not for those who object to much. French's Camp was the site of the great Electric on the Eel concerts with Jerry Garcia.
The Hult Center (Eugene)

A very nice, very busy arts complex. The Hult is about two hours from Newport.
Oregon Coast Music Festival
Southcoast Dixieland Clambake Jazz Festival
An annual festival in Coos Bay. It sounds good, but we've yet to make it.

Oregon Coast Vacations
Rafting, Paddling and Hiking
Rafting is primarily a south coast activity. South Coast rivers are warmer, clearer and rockier than those in the north. The mouth of the Rogue is at Gold Beach, the mouth of the Chetco is at Brookings.

Way up river, very close to where the Virtual Chetco Pools was made.
Public Radio
KSOR, "Jefferson Public Radio": Ashland
Have both "Rhythm and News" and "Classics and News" frequencies. Their classical late night "State Farm Musical Hall" is especially good, featuring much supposedly difficult music that is rarely heard. They cover almost all of southern Oregon via a series of translators.
KLCC: Eugene and Newport
Very good news, evening and weekend programming.
KHSU "Diverse Public Radio" Arcata
Good, varied programming. It can be picked up from the Harbor Hills and Cape Ferrelo.
KHUM "Radio without the rules": Ferndale
Not actually public, but a great for jazz and interesting rock, folk and unusual stuff. It can be picked up from the Harbor Hills and Cape Ferrelo.
